Our Belief

We believe everyone should live in happiness for as long as they can. This includes being loved, cared for, pain free, and in good health for as long as possible.

That's why we created SHINE.

SHINE helps you take care of yourself by elevating the priority of taking medicines that keep you alive & well for the long-haul.

It's better when we help each other.

Our Story

2014

It Started With Community Testing

Our co-founders, Mackenzie and David, saw a gap in HIV testing services in Washington, DC and started One Tent Health to help solve the problem. The team grew to over 1,000 amazing volunteers, and tested over 15,000 people for HIV and COVID-19.

2016

U=U Campaign Launches

Rooted in years of scientific research about treatment as prevention, the U=U campaign popularized the growing scientific consensus that when you take your HIV medicine, you can achieve viral suppression (sometimes referred to as “undetectable”) and have zero risk of transmitting HIV to your sexual partner or partners. That's literally amazing! This fact is called “Undetectable = Untransmittable” which is abbreviated to "U=U".

2019

SHINE’s Spark and Our Mission

While working on our city’s 90/90/90/50 Plan, we asked ourselves what would happen if we could help everyone take their needed medicine and become undetectable? The answer is that we'd extend hundreds of thousands of lives, and end the spread of HIV at long last. That’s when our mission to end the HIV epidemic was born.

Present Day

Launching Our Pilot Before Expanding Nationally

We're planning to launch a small pilot this year, and then to expand from there. We're committed to creating a better world. One where you're healthy, feel less stressed about money, and we end HIV together. We're here for you and all of us, because it’s the right thing to do.

We asked ourselves what would happen if we could help everyone take their needed medicine and become undetectable?
